Testing, filtration, optional membrane squeezing, washing and unloading are separate decision stages. The flow does not assume that every stage belongs in one default cycle.
Start With the Separation Task
The first price difference often comes from what the press must do. Dewatering a mineral concentrate, recovering solids from stone wastewater, or producing a washable chemical cake can require different cloths, plate arrangements, piping and control steps. A press selected only by nominal size may be difficult to compare with a press selected from slurry data and a defined cycle.
- Name the material and describe particle size, abrasiveness, viscosity and settling behavior.
- State whether the cake will be conveyed, stored, returned to process, washed or thermally dried later.
- Separate filtrate clarity expectations from a final water-quality or discharge requirement.
- Identify whether the cycle includes filling, filtration, optional diaphragm squeezing, washing, air displacement or unloading.
| Scope question | Why it changes a quotation |
|---|---|
| Primary objective | Changes the plate, cloth, piping and operating sequence to be considered. |
| Wet feed versus dry solids | Prevents a mass-basis mismatch when discussing sizing or handling. |
| Cake destination | May add a conveyor, cake breaker, collection arrangement or wash requirement. |
Main Press, Plates and Cloths
The quoted press may include a frame, hydraulic closing arrangement, filter plates, filter cloths, manifolds, drip protection and basic controls. Confirm each inclusion. Plate size is not a universal performance rating: the confirmed Shengqi reference range for digital filter plate series is 250–2000 mm, with 1000 mm and 1250 mm examples available for discussion. These references do not mean that every press configuration, pressure, capacity or application is covered by those examples.
- Ask whether the price is for the press only or includes a complete plate and cloth set.
- Request a drawing showing plate dimensions, chamber depth, feed and filtrate paths, and connection points.
- Confirm which items are standard, which are selected after slurry review, and which are optional spares.
- For replacement parts, provide original samples or clear front, back, side, handle and sealing photographs.
Automation, Controls and the Human Boundary
Automation changes the price through sensors, valves, hydraulic controls, plate shifting or opening arrangements, cake discharge logic, wash sequences and the control cabinet. The useful question is not whether a press is simply called automatic, but which tasks are sequenced by the controls and which tasks remain with an operator. An automatic configuration can still require inspection, cloth checks, safe area control and response to an alarm.
| Control or mechanism | Confirm before comparing prices |
|---|---|
| Control cabinet | Supply voltage, enclosure requirements, interfaces and included instruments. |
| Automatic sequence | Exact steps covered, operator actions, alarm behavior and safe stop conditions. |
| Plate opening or shifting | Travel, discharge arrangement and compatibility with the selected plate pack. |
| Membrane squeeze | Membrane type, connection, required utility and whether its stage is in the cycle. |
| Wash or air service | Separate service, valves, piping and collection paths; not an assumed default cycle. |
Feed Pump, Auxiliary Equipment and Interfaces
A low machine price may exclude the equipment needed to feed, receive and handle the process. Feed-pump selection depends on slurry properties, distance, elevation, required control and the press inlet. It should not be reduced to a generic pump name. Polymer preparation or dosing, if part of the process, needs its own confirmed scope and should not be assumed from a filter press quote.
- Mark the feed source, pump location, pipe route, elevation and available utilities on a simple site sketch.
- Ask who supplies inlet and outlet valves, flexible connections, supports, tanks and electrical cabling.
- Clarify whether cake handling is manual or requires a conveyor or breaker.
- List civil works, lifting, drainage, ventilation and local installation obligations separately from equipment price.
Materials, Process Conditions and Testing
Contact materials can change the quote when the slurry is corrosive, warm, abrasive or chemically sensitive. State pH, temperature, solids concentration, particle character and cleaning conditions. Do not request a universal cleaning-chemical recipe: compatibility depends on the cloth, plate, elastomers, process residue and site safety controls. The quotation can instead identify the information required to select a compatible cleaning approach.
| Data to send | Decision it supports |
|---|---|
| Solids concentration and basis | Separates feed-water variation from dry-solids handling needs. |
| pH, temperature and chemistry | Supports material, gasket, cloth and cleaning compatibility review. |
| Particle size and abrasiveness | Informs cloth, wear points, feed arrangement and test priorities. |
| Cake and filtrate targets | Defines measurement methods without promising an untested result. |
| Representative sample | Allows a test plan where selection cannot be responsibly confirmed from data alone. |
Logistics, Installation and Service Scope
Freight is affected by packed dimensions, weight, destination, route, export documentation and whether plates, cloths and auxiliaries ship together. Request packing dimensions and a clear delivery boundary instead of comparing a factory equipment figure with a delivered project figure. Delivery timing must be confirmed for the selected build and should not be inferred from a general product page.
- Compare the same trade term, destination and packing assumption.
- Request a scope split for equipment, spare parts, freight, installation, commissioning and training.
- Confirm warranty boundaries, exclusions, response channel and the information needed for a service case.
- Ask for a recommended initial spare list based on the selected configuration, not a generic bundle.
A Practical Quote Comparison Checklist
Before choosing a lower number, normalize the offers. A quotation that excludes cloths, controls, pump, delivery or commissioning may be appropriate for a customer who already owns those items, but it is not directly comparable with a complete supply. Ask each supplier to mark included, optional, excluded and to-be-confirmed items.
| Quotation line | Included / optional / excluded / confirm |
|---|---|
| Press frame and closing system | State model basis, materials and included hydraulic or control items. |
| Plate and cloth pack | State type, size basis, chamber or membrane arrangement and quantity. |
| Pump and piping | State pump basis, valves, manifolds, hose or pipe limits and battery boundary. |
| Automation | List sensors, sequence steps, cabinet, interfaces and operator duties. |
| Testing and technical documents | State sample requirements, drawings, manuals and test deliverables. |
Information to Send for a Comparable Quote
Send the material name, daily operating pattern, feed and dry-solids basis, concentration, temperature, pH, target, utilities, country and project stage. Add equipment nameplate details when replacing a press part, plus plate and cloth photographs, measurements, drawings and a sample description. If a value is unknown, write Not Sure rather than guessing. Shengqi can then separate a preliminary selection from items requiring testing or engineering confirmation.
- Material and process objective
- Feed volume and units, solids basis and operating hours
- pH, temperature, particle and chemical information
Frequently Asked Questions
What is usually the largest price driver in a filter press quotation?
There is no single driver for every project. The selected press scope, plate and cloth pack, automation, pump and site requirements can each materially change the offer. Compare the same inclusions and slurry assumptions before drawing a conclusion.
Does a larger filter area guarantee higher capacity?
No. Filter area is a geometric selection value, not a guaranteed production rate. Solids loading, cake resistance, cloth, cycle stages, feed conditions and testing affect the result.
Are 1000 mm and 1250 mm filter plates available for every machine?
They are confirmed examples within the discussed 250–2000 mm digital filter plate series reference. The correct size, plate type and compatibility must be confirmed for the specific press, material and configuration.
