This is a selection and replacement workflow. It does not define a universal pressure, capacity, moisture result or cloth life; those depend on the press, slurry and confirmed test or operating data.
When to Choose Polypropylene Filter Cloth
Polypropylene is worth considering when chemical compatibility, cleanable construction and a suitable balance of particle retention and cake release are required. The correct grade is not selected from fiber name alone. Filtration behavior also depends on yarn, weave, permeability, finish, cloth thickness, stitching and the solids being filtered.
Use this page to start a technical comparison, not as a universal material guarantee. Temperature, pH, solvent exposure, abrasive solids, fine particles and the required filtrate clarity must be reviewed for the actual process. A sample or test may be needed where the slurry changes during the day or where cake release is critical.
- Confirm whether the cloth is for recessed, membrane, CGR or another plate arrangement.
- Separate an original-specification replacement from a proposed improvement; the two require different review criteria.
- Describe whether the priority is filtrate clarity, cycle stability, cake release, washing, or cloth cleaning.
- Do not infer filter-press pressure, throughput, cake moisture or cloth life from the material name.
| Decision item | Information to confirm |
|---|---|
| Material duty | Slurry solids, liquid, temperature, pH and any known chemicals |
| Retention need | Particle behavior, target filtrate appearance and whether a test is available |
| Plate fit | Plate type, outside dimensions, cloth layout, feed opening and corner holes |
| Operating issue | Blinding, leakage, poor cake release, tearing or cleaning difficulty |
| Supply scope | Replacement set, trial pieces, spare quantity and installation responsibility |
Construction and Fit Must Be Reviewed Together
A filter cloth has to seal and stay located while the press closes, feeds, washes or opens. Review the center feed opening or corner openings, neck length, edge finish, hanging or fixing arrangement, stitching, drain paths and any cloth-to-plate contact points. A cloth that has the right nominal length and width can still be wrong if its holes, neck, handles or seam positions do not match the plate.
Polypropylene cloth may be supplied in different woven constructions. The construction changes the path available to liquid and particles and affects cleaning and release. The final choice should therefore follow the plate drawing, original sample and slurry information rather than a generic mesh label.
- Photograph the cloth installed on both sides of the plate, including the feed opening and perimeter.
- Record finished length and width, thickness if measurable, opening dimensions and seam positions.
- Mark which side faces the chamber and identify any nap, finish or directional feature.
- Keep a removed sample unwashed when possible so its wear and deposit pattern can be examined.
Selection and Confirmation Workflow
Shengqi uses a staged review so a cloth order is tied to a real installation. First, send the press nameplate and clear photographs of the plate front, back, side, handles, sealing edge and all openings. Next, provide dimensions and the original cloth or a drawing. Finally, describe the slurry and the problem to be solved. If the requested cloth is an improvement rather than a like-for-like replacement, explain the intended change and retain the original reference.
A trial should be judged against recorded operating conditions. Compare filtrate clarity, leakage, cake release, cleaning response and visible wear; do not judge only by the first cycle. The cloth can be supplied as a replacement set after the layout, material and sewing details are confirmed.
| Step | Customer action | Review output |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Identify | Send nameplate, press model information and plate photos | Equipment and plate arrangement |
| 2. Measure | Record cloth, plate, openings, necks, seams and fixing details | Dimension and connection checklist |
| 3. Describe | Provide slurry, temperature, pH, solids and current symptoms | Application and compatibility questions |
| 4. Confirm | Review drawing, sample and proposed construction | Approved cloth specification |
| 5. Supply | Confirm quantity, spares and installation plan | Replacement or trial order scope |
Installation, Cleaning and Replacement Checks
Before installation, isolate the press according to the site procedure, release process hazards and follow the equipment maker's safety controls. Never open a press under pressure, perform electrical work while energized, or bypass an interlock. Check that the cloth is the approved orientation and that no seam, neck or edge is folded into the sealing line.
During operation, inspect for channeling, edge leakage, uneven deposits, blocked areas, abrasion and stretched openings. Cloth cleaning is not the same as filter-cake washing: cleaning removes deposits from the cloth, while cake washing treats the cake within the press. Any cleaning agent or temperature must be selected only after the cloth, plate, slurry and site safety requirements are reviewed; this page does not prescribe a universal chemical recipe.
Replace or investigate a cloth when it no longer seals, has damaged seams or openings, remains blinded after an approved cleaning method, or has changed dimensions enough to affect the plate set. Keep records of installation date, position, slurry and observed symptoms so a future order can distinguish wear from an unsuitable initial selection.
- Verify plate and cloth count, orientation, hole alignment and sealing perimeter before closing the press.
- Inspect the first cycles for leakage and abnormal filtrate; stop for a safe inspection if the press does not operate normally.
- Use the original cloth and measurement guide when ordering a matching spare set.
- Ask for a compatibility review before changing weave, finish or cleaning practice.
Data Needed for a Useful Cloth Quote
Send the press and cloth evidence together. Useful attachments include the nameplate, front and rear plate photos, a close view of the feed and corner openings, a full cloth photograph, a removed sample, a drawing and any existing specification. Add the slurry name, solids description, temperature, pH, operating cycle, current cloth construction and the reason for replacement. Andy can then identify which details are confirmed and which still require a sample or test.
For a quotation, state the quantity, destination, requested delivery arrangement and whether the order is a trial, a like-for-like replacement or a proposed change. No fixed performance figure is assumed until the equipment and process are reviewed.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is polypropylene filter cloth suitable for every slurry?
No. Suitability depends on the actual liquid, temperature, pH, chemicals, solids, plate arrangement and filtration objective. Provide operating data and a sample or test request where compatibility is uncertain.
Can you copy an existing filter cloth?
A like-for-like review can start from the original cloth, plate photographs, measurements and a drawing. Opening, neck, seam, fixing and sealing details must be confirmed before supply.
Can a different polypropylene weave improve cake release?
It may change retention, permeability, cleaning and release, but the result is application-specific. Treat it as a proposed change and compare it with the original cloth through a controlled review or trial.
What should I send for a polypropylene cloth quotation?
Send the press nameplate, plate and installed-cloth photographs, dimensions, openings, sample or drawing, slurry conditions, current problem, quantity and destination.
